What is battery subscription?

With the battery subscription, we are now offering you the opportunity to purchase an unu scooter at an affordable price, plus a worry-free battery subscription for an additional monthly fixed fee (for the battery). The battery is suitable for all 3kW (Standard) and 4kW (Plus) unu scooter models.

Why should I choose the battery subscription?

We know that customers have had certain reservations about batteries for fully electric vehicles in the past. The reason is a rapidly evolving electromobility market and concerns that the status quo of the battery may not last long. Our battery subscription counteracts these worries and guarantees the following:

  • Guaranteed performance: We guarantee a battery capacity of 75 percent for the duration of the subscription. If the capacity falls below the guaranteed limit during this time, we will replace your battery free of charge.

  • Replacement in the event of a defect: In case your battery no longer functions correctly, we will replace it.

  • No need to worry about the wear and tear of the battery. You will always be informed about the current battery capacity and its quality via our app.

  • Predictable monthly costs (still lower than a combustion engine)

  • Flexible subscription plans

  • Sustainable reuse of the battery and its cells by unu

Is the scooter mine, or is the scooter itself tied to the battery subscription?

Like a phone contract, the scooter is yours. The battery subscription gives you additional peace of mind – no more worrying about your battery.

What are the warranty conditions for the battery subscription?

Regardless of the subscription you choose, we guarantee a certain level of battery performance. Unu guarantees a battery capacity of 75 percent for the duration of the subscription. If the capacity falls below the guaranteed limit during this time, unu replaces the battery free of charge.

The following applies to both models in the event of a defect: If the battery stops working, unu will replace it.

How can unu monitor the battery status?

The state of your batteries is sent to our cloud platform regularly. We are developing a simple AI that will allow us to continuously monitor the health of batteries. If we detect that your battery is deteriorating or falling below the 75% threshold, we will contact you for a replacement.

Conditions 36-Month Subscription

  • If you are selling your unu scooter, you can cancel your subscription at any time within the 36 months contract.

  • After 36 months, you continue paying €25/month for one battery (and €50/month for two), but your subscription can be canceled monthly.

Conditions Flexible Monthly Subscription

  • You can cancel your subscription with a 1-month cancellation period.

  • After you have paid for the shipping, you will start the contract by paying a one-time fee of €50.

Conditions for purchasing a battery

You still have the flexibility of owning a battery instead of renting one. So you can directly purchase the battery with your scooter as a bundle. The price for one battery for direct purchase is €900.

Why has the pricing of battery subscription been changed multiple times in the past? (April - May)

We were recently testing the battery subscription to reduce the entry price of our e-scooter and make e-mobility accessible to everyone. We spent hours listening to our customers and analyzing what they wanted from a product like ours. After gathering feedback from the early adopters, now have the final perfect offer for our future customers.

Why does the battery now cost 150€ more than before?

Like every other company worldwide, which deals with microelectronics and batteries, unu is also affected by increasing costs in the supply chain. Therefore, we had to adjust the prices of the battery accordingly. Despite surging prices worldwide, we are able to offer a much lower entryprice when purchasing an unu e-scooter with a battery subscription.

Pre-registration for the Battery Subscription

When will unu start with the Battery Subscription?

We plan to start the subscription model by mid of April. We will inform the customers one week in advance before the launch date.

When can I sign up for the subscription? What are the benefits?

If you sign up with the form you will be one of the first people to use the subscription. To become part of the first and prioritized customers, please follow the link on the website. After your 100€ deposit for the subscription, you will also receive a 200€ discount for your scooter purchase, no matter which subscription you choose, the discount will be shown on your final invoice.

What is the process after I pay my deposit?

After we receive the payment and your data, we will inform you weekly about the process, and timeline of the subscription launch. You'll be on the priority list, which means you'll get your scooter and battery(s) not only with a discount but also with priority delivery. The final contract is only concluded when the remaining payment for the scooter has been made by you and you have decided on a tariff.

Rental Period and Order FAQs

When does the rental period start?

The rental period begins on the day of delivery of the unu scooter or battery unless the battery is delivered together with the unu scooter. In the beginning, you get a free 30-day subscription to cover the time between your order and delivery. After that, the delivery will be confirmed via a notification from the delivery company.

How does the monthly payment work?

We will deduct the monthly fee from your account in the first week of the month. If you receive your unu scooter and battery in the middle of a month, the first payment will be deducted the following month. This charge will be higher than the normal monthly fee because it includes the days of the previous month and the pre-payment for the coming month.

Can I pause my subscription? If so, what exactly happens to my vehicle?

No, pausing the subscription is not possible at this time.

How can I cancel my order?

If you wish to cancel your order, we will get in touch with you as soon as possible. Generally, cancellation is only possible if there is an important reason. Please send us an email at [email protected].

I want to cancel or change my subscription. What are the fees?

Please write an email to [email protected]. Please note: Subscriptions other than the Flexible subscription cannot be canceled unless you sell your scooter. In that case, please provide us with the email address of the new scooter owner so that we can send them a subscription offer. We will cancel your subscription as soon as the new owner has completed the subscription process.

Invoice/Tariff

When will I receive the invoice for my order?

You will receive your invoice by email after your scooter has been delivered. Since the invoice needs to show the delivery date, it may take a few days for the system to update. How does it work, when I want to buy the scooter with the battery

When you buy the scooter and the battery together, we will send you an e-mail with the invoice. The purchasing process will be the same, as we had before the battery subscription option. The price for one battery for direct purchase will be €900.

How do I choose one of the battery subscriptions?

You select your scooter model and accessories during the order process. After successfully ordering the scooter, you will receive an email within the next 24 hours, where you can choose the type of subscription. After selecting your subscription and approving the payment, we will forward your order to the warehouse.

Adjusting your contract

I have an unu scooter and would like to order an additional battery

Owners of the standard (3kw) and plus (4kw) unu scooter will soon be able to order a battery subscription via the online store, which will launch at the end of May. Additional batteries for the unu classic scooter are currently unavailable via battery subscription. If you want to purchase another battery, you can still do that via the web-shop.

I bought my unu scooter after the 28th April, and now I want to switch to a battery subscription. Is this possible?

Yes, you can change to the battery subscription model. Please send an E-Mail to [email protected] with all the information of your order and the number of batteries you ordered. We will send you an email where you can choose the battery subscription model that is available for your number of batteries. After we received your subscription we will issue a refund for the scooter.

I bought my unu scooter and got it delivered (14 days) before the 28th of April and now I want to switch to battery subscription - is this possible?

Unfortunately, no. You will maintain your payment model. However, we will guarantee battery performance for 2 years. More about the T&C of your contract can be found here (link).

Can I still buy an unu scooter without a battery subscription after the launch of the subscription model end of April?

Yes, we still offer this option. You can buy a unu directly with a battery.

unu guarantees an easy battery return if it is not working properly. How long does it take to replace the batteries?

At the moment, we cannot guarantee a fixed time frame. We will contact you if the battery drops below 75%. If other problems occur during the subscription, please reach out to [email protected] and use “Battery Subscription - Battery Replacement” as the email’s subject.

I want to sell my scooter in the future. What will happen to my battery subscription?

If you have ownership of the unu Scooter during the term of the rental period and want to sell, rent, or give it away, you will continue to be liable for all contractual and post-contractual claims arising from the rental agreement until we have concluded a new valid (follow-on) agreement for the battery with the new legal successor/owner of the unu scooter. This means that the new owner can also choose the type of subscription they would like to have.

Battery warranty

As you choose the subscription model and therefore rent the battery, we are fully responsible for the battery and guaranteeing its functionality. People who purchased the unu scooterand a battery as a bundle together will have a warranty of 2 years with the battery.

What happens if my battery is stolen?

As long as you have an active subscription, you are responsible for your battery. In case of a loss, you are responsible to cover the costs of the item lost and the cost of delivery for your replacement battery.

What happens when the battery capacity falls below 75%?

The connection to the unu Cloud allows us to monitor the battery status of your unu regularly. If we notice that the battery is deteriorating rapidly or falling below the 75% performance threshold, we will contact you for a replacement.

How can I return the battery when the battery capacity falls below 75%?

You will be notified about how to proceed with your replacement. We collaborate with a third-party partner to pick up the battery. Alternatively, you can bring the battery to your city’s closest drop-off point. We will give you more details during the process.

What if I want to switch from one battery to two batteries?
